RAWALPINDI:

Police claimed on Thursday to have arrested a man six months after he allegedly suffocated his wife to death. Initially, the suspect attempted to disguise the crime as a natural death by consuming an intoxicant and faking unconsciousness.

In April 2024, Kashif was found unconscious, while his wife was found dead in the house in the limits of the RA Bazaar police station. A police team rushed the couple to the hospital. After regaining consciousness, Kashif claimed to have no knowledge of how he became unconscious and how his wife died.

The police then conducted a postmortem examination and sent samples to the Forensic Science Agency in Lahore. Recently, a report came from the agency, which revealed that the woman died of suffocation rather than poisoning or having natural death.

RA Bazaar Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Javed along with the Investigation Officer (IO) again started investigating Kashif. As the inquiry progressed and the evidence unfolded, Kashif confessed to the crime.

The suspect revealed that he and his second wife used to quarrel frequently, and on the night of the incident, her wife was making loud noises which infuriated Kashif who silenced his wife by placing a pillow over her face.

"I didn't even realise that she had passed away," the suspect stated and added that in an attempt to rescue himself, he tried to make the situation suspicious by consuming something intoxicating. The police formally arrested Kashif.
