Driver arrested after hit-and-run involving traffic officer on Murree road

Incident occurred when Traffic Assistant Zameer stopped car for violating one-way traffic rule.

A car driver who attempted to run over a traffic police officer on Murree Road has been arrested by the New Town police.

The incident occurred on November 12 when Traffic Assistant Muhammad Zameer, a member of the City Traffic Police, stopped a car for violating the one-way traffic rule and requested the vehicle’s documents.

Instead of complying, the driver attempted to flee, trying to run over the officer in the process.

The driver dragged the traffic officer alongside the car while attempting to escape, taking him all the way to the nearby chowk. The incident was captured in footage that went viral on social media.

The New Town police had registered a case under attempted murder and other relevant sections against the unidentified driver. Using the vehicle's details, the police were able to trace and arrest the suspect.

The driver, identified as Malik Timor Ahmed, is a resident of Hazro, Attock, and works in a private job in Islamabad.

The police have assured further investigation and legal action against the accused.

Similarly, another incident of a woman driver running over a Motorway policeman was reported in June.

A British woman of Pakistani origin, driving at high speed, ran over a Motorway patrol officer at the Islamabad Motorway Toll Plaza after being issued a challan. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed.

Previously, police registered cases against 11 accused for threatening to kill employees of Highway and Traffic Police and arrested three of them on November

Motorway Police Inspector Khalid Mehmood filed a case which stated that they were on patrol on an official vehicle at gate 15 near 411 GB while performing duty on the M3 Samandari Motorway.
