Ahead of her 69th birthday, Whoopi Goldberg took a moment on The View to emphasize her connection with working-class Americans, stating that she, too, “works for a living.” During a discussion on Tuesday’s show, Goldberg shared that if she were the richest person in the world, she wouldn’t be moderating the popular ABC talk show. Her comments came amid a heated discussion on politics, where she expressed solidarity with those facing financial struggles.

“If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I'm a working person,” Goldberg told the audience, adding that she understands the challenges of supporting a family. Goldberg has been a cohost on The View since 2007, and her presence on the show reflects a balance between her roles in television and film. Known for her ongoing acting projects, including The Stand and Star Trek: Picard, Goldberg also recently announced the reworking of Sister Act 3 following Maggie Smith's passing.

Goldberg’s remarks drew attention to past criticisms of the show’s disconnect from everyday Americans. Former cohost Meghan McCain had previously commented on this gap, noting the importance of interacting with those outside of the show’s income bracket. The View continues to air weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
