As the boxing world anticipates Mike Tyson’s highly publicized fight against Jake Paul, Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg has voiced concern over the health risks Tyson may face in the ring.
With Tyson at 58 and coming off health issues that led to a postponed fight date, Wahlberg admitted he’s hopeful for a swift and safe outcome. “Look, I’d like to see the old Mike come out one more time, one-rounder,” Wahlberg shared with ‘ClockednLoaded,’ emphasizing the toll fighting could take on the heavyweight legend.
Tyson, who withdrew from the initial date in June due to an ulcer flare-up, has worried fans who wonder if his body can withstand an intense match against the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer.
Denzel Bentley, a British middleweight boxer, also voiced similar doubts, referring to Tyson’s 2020 exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. “He couldn’t hurt Roy Jones. What makes you think he could hurt a young, fit man that trains [and] is athletic?” Bentley said, recalling the previous fight that ended in a draw. Wahlberg, a longtime fan of Tyson, urged caution, adding, “I just hope nobody gets hurt, and you know, I always watch Mike… I always get my money’s worth when I watch Mike, a dear friend.”
Tyson’s match with Paul is set for November 15, an event that has fans and professionals alike divided on the outcome and the health implications for Tyson.
With the fight set for smaller, two-minute rounds, Bentley questioned whether Tyson could maintain the stamina needed.
“Can his heart hold up to that?” he pondered, adding that while Tyson has power, his age and physical condition could prove challenging against a faster, younger opponent.
Health experts and boxing insiders have also weighed in, suggesting that Tyson’s return at 58 might be more a testament to his legendary status than a practical decision.
With an audience eager for an epic showdown, Wahlberg’s remarks echo a broader sentiment in the combat sports community: that while Tyson’s comeback promises excitement, it also raises significant health concerns.
