LAHORE:

The Punjab Police claimed to have apprehended a fugitive who had been evading authorities for eight years following his involvement in a murder case.

The suspect, Waseem Akram, was arrested in Bahrain and subsequently brought back to Pakistan. A spokesperson for the Punjab Police confirmed that this arrest brings the total number of dangerous fugitives captured from foreign countries this year to 88.

Waseem Akram was wanted for a 2016 incident in District Attock, where he shot and killed one person and injured two women during a family dispute.

Despite consistent efforts by the Fateh Jhang Police, Akram managed to avoid capture for nearly a decade.

The Attock Police had issued an Interpol Red Notice, facilitating an international manhunt that ultimately led to his arrest by Bahraini authorities, who handed him over to the Punjab Police.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the second phase of the Raiwind Tablighi Ijtima, the Lahore police have implemented comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the safety of participants.

Over 3,000 police officers and personnel will be on duty.
