According to BBC, the body of pop star Liam Payne has been released to his family for repatriation to the UK, following a tragic fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 31-year-old former One Direction member died three weeks ago, after suffering severe internal and external injuries from the fall.

Public prosecutor Andrés Madrea confirmed on Wednesday that Payne's body had been cleared for transport, after local authorities completed toxicology and laboratory tests.

The pop sensation, known for his co-writing contributions to One Direction's chart-topping hits and solo tracks like Strip That Down and Bedroom Floor, tragically passed away in the days before what would have been a fresh chapter in his personal life. His girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, revealed that the couple had been planning to marry before the incident, which has left fans and loved ones heartbroken.

Authorities in Argentina are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. Initial toxicology reports suggest traces of cocaine, though an official emphasised that these findings don't definitively indicate the amount present in his system at the time of death. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Public Prosecutor's Office committed to uncovering further details.

Singer's family issued a statement expressing their grief: "Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul." His untimely death marks the end of an era for his loyal fans, who mourn the loss of one of pop's most beloved voices.

Payne's passing follows a difficult period for the singer, which included a legal dispute with his ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, who had filed a cease and desist order, alleging "obsessive" behavior.
