Pakistani-American Saud Anwar wins fourth term in US senate

Pakistani-American politician Saud Anwar has won a fourth consecutive term as a senator in Connecticut, further cementing his influence in the state’s political landscape.

According to the Ballotpedia, the Democrat secured 27,359 votes in the recent election, comfortably defeating his Republican opponent, Matt Sierakowski, who received just 15,057 votes.

Saud Anwar, who represents Connecticut's 3rd District, first won his Senate seat in a special election in March 2019.

Since then, he has consistently maintained his position, winning re-election in every subsequent cycle. His victory in 2024 marks another significant achievement in his political career.

The win follows a history of solid performance by Saud Anwar, including a resounding success in 2020 when he was re-elected unopposed after receiving 35,263 votes.

In 2022 election, he defeated Matt Harper with 18,968 votes, a clear indication of his growing support base.

Saud Anwar, who holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Yale University, is known for his significant contributions to the healthcare sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic.

He developed affordable and easy-to-assemble ventilators that helped save countless lives. Anwar's efforts to improve healthcare services, especially during crises, have made him a key figure in both his community and the wider state of Connecticut.

Additionally, Saud Anwar has served as the Commissioner for Asian Pacific American Affairs and previously held the role of Mayor of South Windsor. He has also been a consultant for the FBI's Multicultural Advisory Committee, where he worked on promoting diversity and inclusion within law enforcement.

Earlier, two Pakistani-American Democratic candidates, Salman Bhojani and Suleman Lalani, have made history by securing their second consecutive term in the Texas State House elections.

Bhojani, who first entered the assembly in 2022, has focused on vital issues like healthcare, education, and business development while advocating for immigrant rights.

His victory is seen as a key milestone in South Asian American political representation.

Suleman Lalani successfully defended his seat in the Texas State Assembly, winning 56.1% of the vote with 32,141 votes against Republican Lee Simmons, who garnered 43.9% with 25,197 votes.
