Over 400 smoke-emitting vehicles fined

A total of 229 vehicles transporting sand, mud and other material without cover also faced fines.

Fines amounting to over Rs800,000 were imposed on 413 vehicles emitting excessive smoke across Punjab during the past 24 hours.

According to a statement, several vehicles were impounded during checking carried out to help curb smog.

A total of 229 vehicles transporting sand, mud and other material without cover also faced fines.

During the ongoing year, 26,000 vehicles have been fined, while fitness certificates for 600 non-compliant vehicles have been cancelled.

The authorities have formed six joint teams from the traffic police, environment and mines departments to enforce the measures to prevent air pollution.

An official said that tractor-trolleys without covers, water sprinkling or other necessary safety measures will not be permitted on the roads.
