Football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has shared an emotional update on his dog, Ben, who is facing severe health challenges due to leukemia. In a tweet on Monday, Herbstreit, who often brings Ben with him to football games, explained that Ben’s condition has deteriorated since his second chemotherapy session on October 23. “He has lost use of his back legs, almost like they’re paralyzed. He can barely walk. He hasn’t eaten in 3 days,” Herbstreit wrote.
Ben, a constant travel companion for Herbstreit, has been by his side at numerous games, including a recent appearance in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, when Herbstreit brought him on the field before a game between Georgia and Alabama. Now, however, the dog’s health is critical. Herbstreit explained that he’s currently in Pennsylvania with a holistic doctor who is providing a three-day Vitamin C IV treatment in an attempt to help Ben. “The next 24-48 hours will tell us if he has a chance or not,” Herbstreit stated.
Herbstreit also shared his deep bond with Ben, calling him his “best friend and companion.” He thanked fans for their support over the years, adding, “If you’re a spiritual person, I’d love for you to pray for my boy.” The Ohio native, who has often spoken about his love for Cincinnati sports, has been widely supported by fans online, many of whom have responded with their well wishes.
Ben remains under close medical supervision, and Herbstreit will continue treatment with another Vitamin C session soon, hopeful for signs of improvement.
