Keamari district investigation police said they have arrested a couple for stealing newborns and selling them in other cities.
Keamari SSP said that acting on intelligence report by area informers, police raided a house within the limits of Pak Colony police station, where a husband and his wife, residents of Thatta district, were arrested for abducting and selling newborn babies.
A newborn girl was recovered from Ijaz Ali Hangro and his wife as Shazia, which they had kidnapped from a hospital.
The baby girl they had was abducted with the help of a health worker, who was paid Rs250,000 by the accused. The arrested accused also came to Karachi to sell the child to a childless woman named Asma for Rs800,000. The accused also revealed that they bought and sold a newborn baby boy from a health worker named Taslim for Rs250,000 in 2019, who is four years of age now and goes to school.
A case has been registered against the arrested husband and wife in Pak Colony and further investigation has been started.
Cashier injured by bandits' fire
A cashier of a cigarette company was injured when armed assailants opened fire during a robbery bid in the Site Area of Metroville. The bandits escaped with Rs200,000, however, a big amount of Rs1.3 million was saved from the robbers.
The police started hunting for the culprit after they acquired the CCTV footage of the incident.
