A truck driver from Okara has returned home after being held captive for a month and released upon paying a ransom of Rs1.2 million.
The victim, Liaquat, an elderly resident of Haveli Lakha, was lured into a trap in the Kacha area by a group of dacoits under the pretence of a romantic interest.
According to police sources, Liaquat was kidnapped about a month ago after he was deceived by a woman who arranged a meeting, ostensibly out of affection. When he arrived, the dacoits abducted him, taking him to a remote area where he was subjected to physical abuse.
In an attempt to pressure the family, the kidnappers sent a video showing Liaquat being tortured and demanded an initial ransom of Rs20 million.
A case was promptly registered at Haveli Lakha police station by Liaquat's nephew. Under duress, the family negotiated the ransom amount, ultimately paying Rs1.2 million.
Following payment, the kidnappers released Liaquat, who has since returned home.
Liaquat recounted that he fell victim to the scheme, only to find himself kidnapped and taken to the secluded Kacha area, where he endured extensive mistreatment.
