Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo brought the magic of Wicked to Sydney on Sunday, launching the global premiere tour of the much-anticipated film adaptation of the popular musical.
Held at the iconic State Theatre, the premiere honored the musical’s roots in the "Land of Oz," with Grande dazzling as Glinda and Erivo taking on the role of Elphaba, marking the start of a five-city press tour for the Wicked film.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, this cinematic adaptation of Wicked, which explores the untold story of Oz's witches, features an all-star cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, and Ethan Slater. Fans of the stage production, which has captivated audiences for over two decades, will see the story unfold across two movie parts, with the second installment arriving in theaters in November 2025.
In a nod to Wicked’s rich history, the premiere event at Munchkinland celebrated the classic tale’s Australian fanbase, as they prepare for limited previews starting November 20. This event is just the beginning of a series of festivities surrounding the film, which is expected to draw significant audiences globally.
