Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Saif dismissed Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) objections to Bushra Bibi’s presence in Peshawar, asserting that she has the right to stay there and did not make any deals.
In response to remarks by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Saif stated that Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI chairman Imran Khan, is a Pakistani citizen and has the right to reside in any part of the country, Express News reported.
“Those who make deals escape to London; Bushra Bibi has not made any deal,” Saif added, referring indirectly to PML-N leaders who have previously travelled to London during legal proceedings.
Saif criticized Asif’s comments as “illogical,” emphasising that Peshawar is an integral part of Pakistan, not London. He further asserted that PML-N believes Bushra Bibi should follow a similar path to leaders like Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
The PTI leader went on to say that Bushra Bibi had “bravely served nine months in jail.” He contrasted her treatment with what he claimed were instances of mistreatment of women in Punjab under Maryam Nawaz’s influence, adding that “Rajkumari Maryam will one day have to answer for her actions.”
Last week, Bushra Bibi was released from Adiala jail after being granted bail in the Toshakhana 2.0 case.
Bushra Bibi spent a total of nine months in jail after being sentenced to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana case on January 31 this year.
The Islamabad High Court had suspended her sentence in the Toshakhana case, following which she was re-arrested in the Toshakhana 2.0 case.
The bail was approved by Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb during a hearing on Wednesday, with Bushra Bibi required to submit a bond of Rs1 million.
This decision provides temporary relief to Bushra Bibi, who faces allegations related to the improper handling of state gifts.
