Jay-Z appears to be facing scrutiny, with many questioning his bond with rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs. On October 28, fellow musician Freddy P discussed Combs’ recent controversy in an interview with The Art of Dialogue on YouTube, noting Jay-Z’s lack of public support for Puff Daddy, despite their longstanding friendship.
For those unfamiliar, Jay-Z and Diddy’s relationship spans decades, involving collaborations on several business ventures, including the music labels Bad Boy Records and Roc-A-Fella Records. As they each built their empires, the two were often seen together at various award shows and events.
In 2010, they also co-headlined a concert series, celebrating each other’s achievements and highlighting their friendship.
Commenting on Jay-Z’s silence amid Diddy’s legal issues, Freddy P speculated in the interview: “Jay-Z, your son going through some financial issues right now. If Jay-Z supposed to be his uncle, he’s supposed to come through, right? Cut a check. Hold you off to the old boy, get right. These n***as ain’t going to come for you, Puff. They’ve been waiting because you didn’t deserve what you got."
Freddy P further claimed that celebrities who were expected to support Diddy “weren’t speaking up” out of fear of potential consequences or negative associations with Diddy’s alleged actions.
Diddy and Jay-Z’s friendship dates back to Diddy founding Bad Boy Records and Jay-Z’s rise with his debut album *Reasonable Doubt* under his label. As Jay-Z worked on his next album, In My Lifetime Vol. 1, with Diddy, the two also shared the grief of losing The Notorious B.I.G.
