Ian Somerhalder, famed for his roles in The Vampire Diaries and Lost, recently shared insights into his five-year acting hiatus at the Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards Gala, citing a dedication to family and environmental projects.
Somerhalder, 45, who left Los Angeles with wife Nikki Reed to embrace a sustainable lifestyle, remarked, "I think it's in the rearview mirror," regarding acting. Yet, he hinted that he might consider a return for the revival of V Wars, a Netflix sci-fi series he starred in and co-produced, saying, "We got the rights back...but with everything on our plate, I'm not sure."
For the past five years, Somerhalder and Reed have pivoted to environmental initiatives, co-founding The Absorption Company and supporting green projects such as Kiss the Ground, Common Ground, and Ground Swell.
Reed shared a similar sentiment, emphasizing that running businesses and raising children makes a return to acting challenging but not entirely off the table. Somerhalder, who values time spent with family and tackling "big issues" like sustainability and clean food, reflects a commitment to a lifestyle far from Hollywood, yet open to a selective return.
