Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed stated that the 26th amendment will burden the government and that no one will benefit from it. He added that if Maulana Fazlur Rehman calls for the 27th amendment, we’ll see what happens.
Speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Sheikh Rashid mentioned that the rulers' dreams have been shattered, and they should abandon any hopes for further amendments.
He emphasized, "Only Imran Khan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman have elevated the dignity of the country and the nation."
He also noted that for the first time in the country's history, there is a chief justice from the Afridi caste. He claimed that the Afridis have defeated 42 countries, including the Sikhs, the British, Russia, and the United States. "Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will uphold the banner of justice," he stated
Sheikh Rashid also appealed to the army chief to forgive the innocent vendors arrested on May 9.
No Plans for 27th Constitutional Amendment: Tarar
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has dismissed rumors about a potential 27th constitutional amendment, shortly after the government secured a two-thirds majority for a constitutional package in parliament.
In an interview with a local news channel, Attaullah Tarar stated, “There have been no discussions on the 27th amendment in any government or legal committee meetings.”
This clarification follows reports suggesting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari discussed a proposed amendment related to provincial rights during their recent meeting in Lahore.
While sources indicated that there was a consensus on addressing provincial concerns, Tarar confirmed that no official draft or discussions have taken place regarding such an amendment.
He highlighted the recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment as a significant step in legal reforms, aligning with the Charter of Democracy originally signed by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in 2006.
