Ex-senator Saleh Shah’s residence leveled in South Waziristan blast

The home of former senator Saleh Shah was destroyed in a blast on Saturday in Upper South Waziristan, police said. Unidentified attackers reportedly planted explosives at Shah’s residence, which was completely levelled in the explosion, Express Tribune

Police sources confirmed that the blast left the house in ruins. No casualties have been reported so far, though the blast was powerful enough to collapse the structure entirely.

Security forces arrived promptly after the incident, cordoning off the area and initiating a search operation to identify and apprehend the suspects. The region has witnessed periodic unrest, and security forces are on high alert.

Shah, who previously played a key role in mediating talks between the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government, had also faced attacks on his property in recent years, with his house in Gomal, Tank, coming under assault in a prior incident. The motives for this latest attack remain unclear as authorities continue their investigation.

Last month, a remote-controlled bomb blast in South Waziristan injured 10 people, including six police officers. The police vehicle, which was transporting officers to duty, was targeted in the attack.

According to rescue officials, the explosion occurred as the police officers were being transported in a private vehicle to the Krikot Road in Wana Rustam Bazar area of ​​South Waziristan.

The powerful blast was heard across a large distance.

The injured included police officers Aurangzeb, Muhammad Tahir, Kamran, and Attaullah, along with civilians Syed Akhtar, Amanullah, Abid, Habib Jan, Noor Khatam, and Noor Salam.

Rescue 1122 teams responded promptly, providing medical aid on-site before transferring the injured to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

The area has been cordoned off as authorities continue their search for those responsible.
