Kim Kardashian celebrated an update in the Menendez brothers' case after Los Angeles DA recommended their resentencing

Kim Kardashian expressed joy over a recent development in the Erik and Lyle Menendez case, following Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon’s recommendation for their resentencing after they were convicted of killing their parents.

The 44-year-old reality star shared her thoughts on Instagram Stories, posting a detailed message where she stated that the brothers were "granted a second chance" and applauded Gascon for "righting a significant wrong."

"The Menendez brothers were granted a second chance at life and will wake up tomorrow finally eligible for a parole hearing," Kim began her statement.

"They could be released in as early as 6 months," added the SKIMS founder, who has previously voiced support for the brothers’ release from prison.

"Thank you, George Gascón, for revisiting the Menéndez brothers’ case and righting a significant wrong. Your commitment to truth and fairness is commendable."

"To the brothers' family, friends, and the millions who have been vocal supporters – your voices were heard. The media's focus, especially on the heels of Ryan Murphy's TV show, helped expose the abuse and injustices in their case."

"Society’s understanding of child abuse has evolved, and social media empowers us to question the system in place. This case highlights the importance of challenging decisions and seeking truth, even when guilt is not in question."

Kim, who passed California's 'baby bar' exam in 2021, concluded her post with, "Never stop questioning."

She followed up with a second text post, writing, "Erik and Lyle are immediately eligible for parole now that their sentence has been reduced to 50 years to life."

"In 2015, a bill was passed in California allowing individuals sentenced to life in prison before the age of 25 to seek parole after serving 25 years. Since Erik and Lyle have been in prison for 35 years, they qualify as 'youthful offenders' and are immediately eligible for parole."

Gascon held a press conference on Thursday afternoon, recommending a new sentence for Erik and Lyle, 35 years after they killed their parents, Kitty and Jose, in their Beverly Hills home.

He recommended they be eligible for parole immediately, but a court will ultimately decide the final sentence for the brothers, now aged 53 and 56.
