Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Donald Trump on October 23, 2024, over his reported comments invoking Adolf Hitler, calling the remarks “deeply troubling.”

Harris responded to claims made by John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff, who alleged that Trump admired Hitler’s military loyalty. In an interview with The New York Times, Kelly recalled Trump saying he wanted generals like Hitler’s, which Harris condemned, stating that Trump wants a military “loyal to him personally” rather than the U.S. Constitution.

Harris further warned that Trump’s desire for “unchecked power” has become evident and that he is “increasingly unhinged.” Kelly, a retired Marine general, labeled Trump as fitting the definition of a “fascist” in several interviews. Kelly also recounted a past comment by Trump, where he allegedly said, “Hitler did some good things.”

Trump’s campaign dismissed Kelly’s remarks, with spokesperson Steven Cheung calling them “debunked stories.” Harris used the opportunity to draw attention to Trump’s character and the potential dangers of his leadership in a second term, urging voters to consider the stakes in the upcoming election.
