JHELUM:

Illegal rickshaw stands in Jhelum city have become a nightmare for the citizens nowadays. The residents of Jhelum have demanded the traffic police take action against illegal rickshaw stands at the intersections, alleging the traffic police officials are conniving with the rickshaw drivers.

They complain that it has become a routine that ambulances and vehicles carrying students get stuck for hours due to illegal rickshaw stands. Women, children and elderly people face many inconveniences while crossing on foot.

It is learned that with the blessing of the traffic police officers and with the connivance of the staff, the rickshaw drivers have converted the intersections into parking stands. They park rickshaws adjacent to barriers lying in front of the main bazaar and on the road leading to Chandni Chowk and a road leading to the vegetable market, throwing traffic out of gear.

The traffic flow becomes hell during school and college timings and for patients and ambulances which are seen stuck in the traffic mess regularly.

Apart from this, elderly children and women passers-by face serious difficulties. Citizens have urged the Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) concerned to take notice of the situation.
