Under the influence of a new monsoon system, light to moderate rainfall was reported in Karachi's suburban areas on Sunday, while the city is expected to receive moderate showers with thunder today (Monday).
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department's Early Warning Centre, Sarjani Town, New Karachi, and Gulshan-e-Maymar witnessed rainfall on Sunday, although most parts of the city remained hot, humid, and sunny during the day. The department has forecast moderate thundershowers for Monday, while several spells of heavy downpours accompanied by thunder are expected on Tuesday.
In rural Sindh, districts including Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Sukkur, Kashmore, Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, and Jamshoro may experience moderate to heavy - and in some places very heavy — showers. Meanwhile, intermittent rainfall is likely in Sujawal, Badin, Matiari, and Tharparkar districts until August 19.
The Met Office further reported low-level flooding at Guddu and Sukkur barrages, while water flow at Kotri Barrage remains normal. It warned that heavy rains, gusty winds, and lightning could disrupt daily life, particularly in low-lying areas where urban flooding and waterlogging may occur.
Weaker structures such as mud houses, walls, electricity poles, vehicles, and solar panels may also sustain damage during intense downpours.
Farmers have been advised to plan their activities according to the forecast, while relevant authorities have been urged to stay alert and take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
