New Zealand clinch ICC Women's T20 World Cup title in thrilling final against South Africa

New Zealand emerged victorious against South Africa in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final held in Dubai, defeating the Proteas by 32 runs.

Chasing a target of 159, South Africa could only muster 126 runs for nine wickets in their 20 overs.

The match concluded with Nonkululeko Mlaba (4*) and Ayabonga Khaka (4*) at the crease, unable to secure the runs needed for victory. South African captain Laura Wolvaardt was the top scorer for her team, contributing 33 runs from 27 balls, including five boundaries.

Tazmin Brits, the other opening batter, made 17 runs before being dismissed in the sixth over by Fran Jonas.

Following the captain’s departure, the Proteas suffered a batting collapse, losing wickets at regular intervals. Anneke Bosch scored nine, while Marizanne Kapp (8), Nadine de Klerk (6), Chloe Tryon (14), Sune Luus (8), Annerie Dercksen (10), and Sinalo Jafta (6) struggled to make significant contributions.

Earlier, New Zealand batted first and set a total of 158 runs for five wickets. The innings began with Suzie Bates and Georgia Pimmer opening the batting.

Bates scored 32 runs off 31 balls, while Pimmer managed nine runs off seven balls before being dismissed early in the second over.

Brooke Halliday provided crucial support with a score of 38 runs from 28 balls, helping the Black Caps reach 100 runs in the 14th over.

Amelia Kerr topped the innings with 43 runs before being caught by Tazmin Brits, leaving New Zealand with a solid total.

The South African bowlers performed admirably, taking five wickets, with Nonkululeko Mlaba claiming two, while Ayabonga Khaka, Chloe Tryon, and Nadine de Klerk each took one wicket.
