Originally in Spanish, the alleged 23-second WhatsApp voice note was first posted by lorem ipsum (@altashanta) on the social media platform X, gaining attention online. Its English translation reads: “Yes, he’s dead. The man, he’s dead. Some say he fainted in the lobby (of the hotel). They brought him back again to his room and he was acting kinda crazy and he jumped. He jumped. He was totally wasted (drugged).”

The cleaning lady, referred to as Catia, further mentioned that she had cleaned his room on Wednesday, and during that time, Liam Payne was allegedly “doing drugs in front of her” and “apologizing for the mess.”

The original post, which quickly went viral, amassed over 10.6 million views, 4,500 reposts, 64,000 likes, and 520 comments at the time of writing.

Pop star Liam Payne died after falling from the hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, where he was staying. It is yet unclear whether the incident was accidental or a suicide. Emergency workers informed Reuters that he was found dead in the hotel's interior courtyard.

The capital's police confirmed details about the former One Direction member’s death, stating they received a call from hotel staff about an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.”

The news outlet also obtained audio from the Buenos Aires security ministry, which recorded a hotel worker requesting immediate help for an intoxicated guest.

"When he is conscious, he is destroying the entire room and we need you to send someone," the hotel employee said.
