Twitch streamer Doug "Censor" recently revealed that his attempt to break the world record for most pull-ups in 24 hours was denied by Guinness World Records because it was conducted for charity. On September 8, 2024, Censor successfully completed 9,200 pull-ups, surpassing the previous record with five hours remaining.
The event raised over $8,500 for Project Purple, a charity organization. However, during a Call of Duty stream on October 16, 2024, Censor shared that Guinness had rejected his application.
According to Censor, the organization stated, "Your application has not been recognized as that of an individual or for the purposes of personal achievement only." He expressed frustration, noting that Guinness rejected the record because of its charity connection, despite the achievement. Censor added, “I’m not even trolling right now… They denied me because I did it for charity.”
Professional chess player Alexandra Botez also commented on the situation, questioning why a Guinness representative was present during the attempt if it was later to be rejected. The rejection has sparked discussions in the streaming community about the criteria for record-breaking attempts.
