Mbappé dismisses rape investigation reports in Sweden as 'fake news'

French football sensation Kylian Mbappé fiercely denied reports of a rape investigation stemming from his recent visit to Stockholm, labelling the accusations as "fake news" in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet claimed a probe was underway, but Mbappé and his entourage quickly responded, threatening legal action and denouncing the report as a "slanderous rumour."

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet published a report on Monday alleging that a formal complaint had been filed against an unnamed individual following a night out in Stockholm.

The report detailed that the Real Madrid forward had been in the Swedish capital with a group and attended a nightclub before the incident.

The complaint, made after the alleged victim sought medical attention, sparked a police investigation, according to the outlet.

Mbappé, 25, took to X to refute the story, stating: "FAKE NEWS!!!! It's becoming so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if by chance," referencing his ongoing dispute over unpaid wages with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

His representatives, meanwhile, issued a strong statement, condemning the Swedish report as "completely false and irresponsible."

They emphasized that legal action would be taken to defend Mbappé’s reputation and combat what they described as a pattern of "defamatory treatment."

Swedish authorities, while confirming that an investigation had been opened following a complaint, did not disclose any names involved in the case.

Police officials refused to provide further details, citing concerns over hindering the investigation.

Mbappé, who is currently in a legal battle with PSG over €55 million in unpaid wages, was not selected for France's recent Nations League matches.

His entourage suggested the timing of the report was suspicious, given its release just before a key hearing with the French league committee.

The 2018 World Cup winner recently made headlines with his high-profile transfer to Real Madrid after seven years at PSG.
