PESHAWAR:

Condemnation rather than commendation is the order of the day when it comes to the language used for each other by members of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa opposition and government.

However, Monday marked one of those rare occasions as Governor Faisal Karim Kundi praised K-P Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and the chief minister for the role they played in finding solutions to the problems presented in the Pashtun jirga and forming a committee for the purpose.

In turn, the speaker also praised the positive impact of federal minister and the opposition leader at the gathering to hold discussions with the banned Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leaders.

A decision has been made to present the demands of the Pashtun Jirga in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly through a parliamentary committee, which will then be discussed and presented to the federal government.

The governor stated that the issues of the province, autonomy, rights, and royalties will be deliberated upon.

Assembly speaker Swati said that the political leadership had resolved the issues presented at the jirga within the bounds of the Constitution and law. The two political leaders were speaking at the inauguration of a passport desk in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for members and assembly staff.

The facility was inaugurated by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.

Speaker Swati, Opposition Leader Dr Ibad, and other members of the assembly were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to the media, the governor highlighted that the speaker played an important role in the Pashtun Jirga, forming a parliamentary party committee, reaching out to the chief minister, and convening a jirga at the Chief Minister's House with representatives from parliamentary parties and political groups to find a solution.

"Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister Amir Maqam also played a role in resolving the issue. All political parties united on a one-point agenda of "peace" and authorised the CM to negotiate with jirga members," he said

"As a result of the chief minister's efforts, successful negotiations were held."
