The song, which originally appeared on Charli XCX’s Brat album, delves into the singer's insecurities. Grande’s verse in the new version highlights her struggles with public scrutiny, singing, "It’s a knife when you’re so pretty, they think it must be fake." She also addresses mean fan behavior and rumors of her changing appearance, stating, "It’s a knife when the mean fans hate the nice fans / When somebody says, ‘Ari, I think you’ve totally changed.’"

Grande has faced persistent speculation about her appearance, recently denying plastic surgery rumors during Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test series. In the September 30 episode, she confirmed she had used fillers and Botox but clarified, "I stopped, like, four years ago." She also expressed support for anyone who chooses to alter their appearance, stating, "That is the extent."
