Diphtheria claimed 28 lives this year

Deaths due to diphtheria continue to plague Karachi and the rest of Sindh this year.

KARACHI:

Deaths due to diphtheria continue to plague Karachi and the rest of Sindh this year. The disease has claimed 28 lives across the province, with 10 of those victims from Karachi. The Sindh Health Department confirms that 166 cases of diphtheria have been reported in the province this year, 73 of which are from Karachi.

Last year, there were 55 reported deaths from diphtheria throughout Sindh, with 49 cases from Karachi. Currently, 12 patients affected by diphtheria are being treated at the Institute of Infectious Diseases Hospital. Diphtheria is a treatable bacterial disease affecting the throat, nose, and tonsils.
