The Trump campaign has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris following her interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on October 16, 2024. Karoline Leavitt, former national press secretary for Donald Trump, referred to Harris’ performance as a “train wreck,” stating, “Kamala was angry, defensive, and once again abdicated any responsibility for the problems Americans are facing.” Leavitt added on social media platform X, “Kamala can’t handle the pressure of an interview with Fox News — she certainly can’t handle the pressure of being President of the United States.”

The interview was one of the toughest Harris has faced in her campaign, with heated exchanges between her and Baier on issues such as immigration, President Biden’s mental fitness, and transgender prisoners. The Make America Great Again PAC echoed Leavitt’s sentiments, labeling Harris “angry” and “unfit” for the presidency.

Harris’ campaign, however, defended her performance. Brian Fallon, her communications director, said Harris achieved her goal of reaching more conservative voters and demonstrating her resilience under tough questioning. Fallon stated, “She was able to reach an audience that has probably not been exposed to the arguments she’s been making on the trail.”

Harris’ appearance on Fox News is part of her efforts to broaden her campaign’s appeal ahead of the 2024 election.
