During a Univision town hall on October 16, 2024, former President Donald Trump faced visibly critical reactions from audience members after responding to a question about the January 6 Capitol riots. The event featured undecided Hispanic voters, who were invited to pose questions to Trump in the final weeks leading up to the 2024 election.

Ramiro González, a former Republican voter, directly asked Trump about his inaction during the January 6 attack. González stated, "Your action, and maybe inaction, during your presidency was disturbing to me." Trump's response claimed that the event was driven by a belief that the 2020 election was "rigged." He added, "They didn't come because of me... I said peacefully and patriotically, nothing done wrong."

A clip of the audience’s reaction, particularly three women showing their dissatisfaction, has since gone viral, with a post from MeidasTouch receiving over 900,000 views. One woman was seen widening her eyes and shaking her head as Trump seemed to contradict himself by saying, “Ashli Babbitt was killed, nobody was killed.”

González himself appeared unconvinced by Trump's claim that January 6 was "a day of love," further fueling audience skepticism. Newsweek reached out to Trump's team for comment, but no response has been provided. The town hall marked one of Trump's efforts to appeal to Hispanic voters as the November 5 election draws near.
