Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has made headlines by updating his LinkedIn profile to reflect his new role as “Inmate at FCI Cumberland” after being sentenced to 7.5 years in prison.

Ryan Salame, who previously held a prominent position at the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange, shared this unusual career update on the professional networking site.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Inmate at FCI Cumberland,” Ryan Salame posted on his LinkedIn. He was sentenced for his involvement in the Digital Markets Division of FTX, which famously collapsed in November 2022, leaving $8 billion in customer funds unaccounted for.

Ryan Salame not only added his new “position” to his profile but also included it in his work experience. He described his job as “incarcerated” and stated he would be growing his skills in “cleaning and whittling.”

Ryan Salame’s LinkedIn journey has taken a dramatic turn. His profile previously showcased his academic achievements, including a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from UMass Amherst and a Master’s in Science from Georgetown University. He worked with notable firms such as Circle and Alameda Research before becoming Co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets.

However, the crypto exchange's rapid growth ended abruptly with its collapse, leading to significant losses for investors and customers. Following a lengthy trial, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison, and Salame received a 7.5-year sentence for his actions.

While questions remain about whether the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland allows internet access, Salame's LinkedIn update suggests he plans to continue sharing his experiences from behind bars.

The FTX scandal has not only caused financial havoc for millions but has also provided a continuous source of intrigue and entertainment in the world of cryptocurrency.
