New digital domicile system introduced in Karachi to simplify application process

In a bid to eliminate delays and corruption in the domicile issuance process, Karachi residents can now receive their documents within two days through a newly launched digital system, local media reported on Thursday.

The innovative system, introduced at the Korangi Deputy Commissioner Office, allows citizens to obtain their domiciles for a fee of Rs660, a marked improvement from the previous system, which often took months and required bribes.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Digital Domicile Desk, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi highlighted that the new initiative aims to simplify the process and improve efficiency. "We are working on plans to implement door-to-door domicile delivery across all districts, further enhancing convenience for the public," Naqvi announced.

Deputy Commissioner Korangi, Jawad Muzaffar, noted that the number of required documents for obtaining a domicile has been reduced from 15 to 7. Additionally, a QR code system has been introduced to verify the authenticity of domiciles, preventing fraud and allowing for instant verification.

"This is a revolutionary step in addressing long-standing issues faced by students and citizens alike," Muzaffar said, emphasising that the new digital system will significantly improve the efficiency and transparency of the application process.

The new initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to Karachi’s residents, who have long complained of delays and corruption in acquiring domiciles.
