Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried have been cast in The Housemaid, an upcoming psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig for Lionsgate. The film is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s popular novel. Sweeney will play Millie, a young woman starting a new job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina (played by Seyfried) and Andrew. As the story unfolds, Millie discovers that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson expressed excitement for the project, stating, “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start.” Fogelson also praised the cast, adding, "Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be."

The screenplay is being adapted by Rebecca Sonnenshine. Both Sweeney, known for her roles in Euphoria and Anyone But You, and Seyfried, star of Mamma Mia and The Dropout, will serve as executive producers alongside Alex Young and Freida McFadden.

Paul Feig and Laura Fischer are also producing, with Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman overseeing production. Lionsgate’s Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley are overseeing the project for the studio. Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared her enthusiasm for the casting, stating, "Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled."
