Teen surfer Kai Thompson is in critical condition following a serious accident just two streets from his home.
The 14-year-old was on his way to surf when the accident occurred, leaving him with severe injuries. Thompson is currently receiving treatment at CHOC – Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where he is being treated for bruised ribs, a broken pelvis, a severe concussion, a broken nose, and lacerations to his face, mouth, and tongue.
Thompson’s condition is further complicated by internal bleeding from a grade 4 tear to his liver and kidney. Doctors are monitoring his situation closely, awaiting the right time to intervene.
Thompson’s mother shared, "He’s in a lot of pain, but the good news is there’s no trauma to the brain. We’re all holding our breath and praying the bleeding remains controlled."
The family expressed their gratitude for the support and prayers they've received and asked for continued well wishes during this difficult time.
Thompson is a multiple champion surfer, having recently won the 14 and Under Airshow division at the NSSA West Coast Regional Championships. He has also gained a significant online following, with over 100,000 TikTok followers who enjoy his surf videos and accomplishments.
