300 robotic surgeries performed at JPMC

As many as 300 operations have been performed during the first year of robotic surgery at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), according to the hospital's Executive Director, Professor Shahid Rasool.

"This technology was introduced on October 4, 2023," he added. "Robotic surgeries have been performed in various departments, including urology, general surgery, and gynecology. These include successful procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy, colon cancer surgery, hernia repair, and gallbladder removal."

During these robotic surgeries, not only did patients recover faster, but complications were also significantly low. "No deaths were reported during these procedures," he said.

While explaining the procedure, he said that the robotic surgery involves minimal incisions, leading to less blood loss and quicker recovery. "While the human wrist can rotate at an angle of 180 degrees, the robotic system has the ability to rotate at a 360-degree angle."
