A total of 259 solar panels have been installed on the roof top of the KMC building to provide electricity to the entire municipality head office. The installation of solar plates, inverters, structure as well as wiring has been completed at a cost of Rs20 million.
With the completion of the project the KMC will save around 650 to 700 units of power every day and all officer will be on solar energy during day time.
The daily power requirement of KMC building is estimated to be around 400KW. With the completion of the solar project in the initial phase, KMC Building will have 30 per cent of its total electricity requirement through solar energy.
At present, the capacity of the solar system installed on the roof top of the historical building of KMC is 150KW, which will be increased gradually.
Apart from this, the solar energy system to be installed in the KMC building is being connected to the grid of K-Electric, as a result of which the surplus electricity generated by KMC's solar system during the holidays is transferred to the K-Electric. Licence has also been obtained from Nepra for installation of solar system in KMC building.
The private company working on the project has already completed the installation of solar panels at Kidney Hill as well.
