Sophie Turner has opened up about the challenges of single motherhood and how her recent role in Joan helped her through her divorce from Joe Jonas. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the 28-year-old actress spoke candidly about raising her two daughters, Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, following her separation from Jonas. Turner admitted that being a single mother is a “struggle,” saying, “Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way... but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter.”
Turner shared that filming Joan while navigating her divorce gave her "a lot of strength" during a difficult time. “Joan changed me quite a lot,” she revealed. “The series came around at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious and I had to have such strong will and fight against the forces.” She also added humor to the interview, joking that the character taught her “how to do a good ring swap in a handbag.”
Turner and Jonas finalized their divorce recently, after reaching a settlement agreement following a year-long legal process. According to a source who spoke to PEOPLE, the couple is on "friendly" terms and focused on co-parenting their daughters. “They turned things around from the initial messy custody battle,” the source said. “They are friendly and great co-parents now.”
Turner’s new six-part series Joan is set to premiere on The CW in the U.S. on October 2, following its release in the U.K. earlier in September.
