Did you believe you had heard the last of Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed's Barzakh? Think again. According to a report by News18, the contentious web series has been nominated for the Best Drama Series category at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2024 to be held in Singapore in December, competing with entries from 13 other countries in the same category.

As per the publication, director Asim Abbasi acknowledged the nomination by noting, "Writing and directing this show was one of the most surreal experiences. I am truly grateful for the dedication of the exceptional cast and crew, whose unwavering commitment brought this story to life. This recognition not only highlights their excellent performances but also the creative collaboration that made Barzakh possible. I would like to take this moment as an opportunity to thank everyone who believed in this vision and helped us create this show."

A Pakistani-Indian production, the six-episode series made its worldwide premiere on Zee Zindagi's YouTube and ZEE5 on July 19. The finale aired on August 6. However, following strong criticism from local viewers, Barzakh was no longer available to audiences in Pakistan after August 9. The decision to pull the plug on the series in Pakistan was preceded by a statement on social media by the Zindagi team, as well as a separate missive on X from Abbasi to his followers.

"No story of mine is worth more than the safety of all the beautiful, talented artists who came together to craft it," wrote the director. "So this decision really is for the best. For all those who have showered us with love, I hope you enjoy the finale! And remember - stories never die."
