Due to the current political situation in Bangladesh, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's dream of retiring from Test cricket on his home ground may remain unfulfilled.

According to media reports, the star cricketer announced his retirement from international cricket before the start of the Kanpur Test yesterday, though he will continue representing the team in the One-Day International (ODI) format.

The Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan next year, will be his last ODI tournament, after which he will retire from International cricket by March 2025.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Farooq Ahmed chaired a 4-hour-long meeting on September 26, which included discussions regarding Shakib Al Hasan's future.

The board stated that due to the current political tensions, they cannot guarantee whether Shakib will play his last Test match on his home ground, as they are unable to provide security.

The all-rounder must decide his future himself, as security is not in their control.

It is possible that Shakib's final career match will be the last Test match of the series against India.

Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi all-rounder is going through one of the toughest periods of his life, as he faces charges of fraud and murder.

It is noteworthy that Shakib Al Hasan, who is associated with the party of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is facing murder charges in Bangladesh.

He has not returned to Bangladesh since Hasina Wajid's ousting.
