A long-standing debate about the iconic door scene in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic has been settled by Kate Winslet herself. The actress has revealed that the water in the scene was not as deep as it appeared on screen and that Leonardo DiCaprio was actually kneeling during the filming.
Winslet made the revelation during a Q&A session for her new movie, Lee. She explained that the water in the tank was only waist-high, allowing her to easily get in and out to use the bathroom. She also joked that DiCaprio probably has PTSD from being asked about the scene so many times.
The door scene, in which Winslet's character, Rose, is clinging to a piece of floating debris while DiCaprio's character, Jack, is left to perish in the icy water, has been the subject of much discussion. Many viewers have questioned whether Jack could have fit on the piece of wood with Rose, and the revelation that the water was shallower than portrayed adds another layer to the debate.
Winslet also shared other interesting tidbits about the filming of Titanic, including the fact that she was in the hospital with food poisoning when the film premiered in London and that she sneaked into a movie theater to watch it for the first time with friends.
Despite the challenges and controversies surrounding Titanic, the film remains a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences with its epic love story and stunning visuals.
