Zelenskyy to present Kyiv’s new peace plan to Biden: meet election rivals Harris and Trump as well

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in the United States for as visit during which he plans to present a new peace plan to US President Joe Biden and other key political figures, including Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

Zelenskyy’s visit comes at a critical time, following a summer of fierce fighting between Ukrainian forces and Russian troops. His peace plan, dubbed a “victory plan,” is expected to focus on strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities and solidifying its role in global security.

During his visit, Zelenskyy made an unannounced stop at a munitions plant in Pennsylvania, where 155mm artillery shells, essential for Ukraine’s war efforts, are produced.

The Ukrainian president expressed gratitude to the workers, stating that their efforts are pivotal in supporting Ukraine’s fight for democracy.

Zelenskyy is expected to formally present his peace proposals to Biden on Thursday.

No details of the plan have been released, but Zelenskyy has stated that Biden will be the first foreign leader to see it in full, with plans to share it with other international partners soon.

The entire proposal is set to be ready by early November, with key steps expected to bolster Ukraine’s military and secure a clear position for the country in global security arrangements.

His visit coincides with reports of a new $375 million military aid package from the US, which is expected to include patrol boats, HIMARS ammunition, and additional artillery shells.

The US has already supplied Ukraine with over 3 million 155mm shells, essential for howitzer systems used in the ongoing conflict.

Zelenskyy’s peace plan is expected to outline strategic steps for Ukraine’s future, with a particular emphasis on military support and long-term security.

He has also been advocating for using Western-supplied long-range weapons to counter Russian attack, though President Biden has so far resisted authorising their use on Russian soil, citing concerns over escalating tensions with Moscow.

The Ukrainian president will also attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he is expected to rally international support for Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
