Lee Jung-jae is all set to return as Seong Gi-hun in the second season of the Netflix thriller series Squid Game. The teaser for the upcoming season reveals Gi-hun reliving his past traumas by regaining entry into the Game and once again donning his Player 456 attire.

The teaser begins with a close-up shot of our main character waking up distraught, shortly after which he is seen positioned stiffly against a doorframe as he aims a gun at the Front Man. The teaser then offers a montage-driven glimpse of the visuals that enthusiasts are already familiar with, though now with the explicit involvement of weapons.

The Front Man announces the game and thus begins another round of violent play. While not much about the plotline is clear from the teaser, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk earlier confirmed that Gi-hun's arc will develop into a revenge story after the blood-soaked victory he achieved from his former participation in the Game.

Season 1 of the award-winning show ends with the protagonist securing a win against 455 contestants, though at a hefty price. Gi-hun's final showdown is with friend-turned-enemy Sang-woo and Sae-byeok, who he has developed a certain level of fondness for by now.

After Sang-woo kills Sae-byeok, he and Gi-hun battle it off in the eponymous Squid Game, which ends with Sang-woo finishing himself off after Gi-hun fails to do so, resulting in the consequential victory of Gi-hun. A few shocking truths later, Gi-hun attempts to salvage what's left of his sanity by aiding the bereaved and returning to his daughter, only to be triggered by the knowledge that the Game still lives on, which is what makes him turn back.

It is clear from the available context clues that the Game is nowhere near over for our main character, who is now going to take it to the next level with his obscure revenge strategy. Aside from Lee Jung-jae's return, actors Lee Byung-hun and Wi Ha-jun are also reprising their roles as the Front Man and Detective Jun-ho respectively, the latter of which is exciting news for the fans who were on the fence about the detective's fate after the finale.

In a video uploaded by the YouTube channel Still Watching Netflix, the three actors indulged a number of theories posed by the fans about the upcoming season. Many speculated Gi-hun's descent into villainy, which is reflective of the clear-cut trajectory of the next season.

"Do you think the kind-hearted Seong Gi-hun would do something to harm others?" posed Jung-jae, defending his character. Of course, the answer to that lies in the season that is to come. However, it's not particularly an out-of-the-box idea.
