Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member, Omar Ayub Khan, has strongly criticised the government's proposed constitutional amendments, claiming that key figures like Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari are unaware of the draft.

Speaking to the media in parliament on Thursday, Ayub said, "Maulana Fazlur Rehman has made it clear that the draft is unacceptable, and even Tarar and Bilawal have no knowledge of it. The role of government officials and their allies in the special committee has been negative."

Ayub accused the government and its allies of acting like "puppets," stating, "They wanted to hand over their power to someone else. Had this bill passed, martial law would have been imposed in the country."

He further alleged that the government was creating a "super court" for Justice Qazi Faez Isa, questioning why constitutional matters couldn't be resolved by a constitutional bench in the Supreme Court.

"Any form of a super court is unacceptable," he asserted, criticising the lack of transparency and the absence of the draft among government officials.

Ayub praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman for his "positive role" in the situation and warned that any future amendments would be contested in parliament. He also reaffirmed PTI's commitment to holding a rally in Lahore, urging workers to prepare for it, saying, "The rally will happen, as per the founder's message."

In response, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's spokesperson, Murtaza Wahab, dismissed Ayub's allegations, urging him to reflect on his past. Wahab reminded Ayub of his role in General Pervez Musharraf's government, which imposed martial law in 2007 and dismissed the chief justice and other judges.

Wahab further pointed out that Ayub's grandfather, General Ayub Khan, was responsible for the first martial law in Pakistan, during which the country faced significant difficulties. He criticised Ayub for levelling accusations against Bilawal without considering his own family's history of military rule.
