158 House Democrats face backlash after voting against deporting illegal immigrants convicted of sex crimes.

Outrage erupted after 158 House Democrats voted against a bill that would deport illegal immigrants convicted of sexual offenses or conspiracy to commit such crimes. 

The Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace earlier this year, passed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday with bipartisan backing. The bill received 266 votes in favor, with 158 opposed. All present Republicans and 51 Democrats voted in support of the legislation.

The bill aims to close legal loopholes that currently prevent the deportation of illegal immigrants convicted of sex crimes or domestic violence. Additionally, it seeks to make individuals convicted of such offenses inadmissible to the U.S.

Critics of the Democrats’ opposition argue that their stance contradicts their advocacy for women’s rights.

One feminist on X (formerly Twitter) accused the party of harboring harmful attitudes towards women, stating, “They hate women. They want to obliterate them. Spiritually, mentally, and physically.”

The bill’s opponents have labeled it xenophobic, but supporters, including Republican Rep. Tom McClintock, argue that Democrats are being hypocritical, emphasizing that while they talk about a "war on women" in relation to abortion, they seem indifferent to allowing "a flood of sexual offenders, domestic violence offenders, and child abusers" into the country.

The bill now heads to the Democrat-controlled Senate, where its prospects are uncertain. This comes as part of the House GOP’s broader effort to highlight issues related to the ongoing border crisis, which has affected cities and states nationwide.
