President, PM reaffirm loyalty to democracy

On the occasion of International Day of Democracy, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated firm and unwavering commitment to constitutionalism, democracy and rule of law.

In their separate messages, they stressed the need for strengthening democratic institutions, undertaking essential reforms, and working collectively to consolidate democracy in Pakistan.

President Zardari emphasised that the resolution to the nation's contemporary challenges was in a vibrant and resilient democratic process. He underscored the essential role of parliament in safeguarding democracy, addressing public grievances, and formulating policies to ensure inclusivity.

"We commemorate World Democracy Day to highlight the importance of democracy in empowering citizens and promoting their active participation in the political process," he said.

He said that democracy stood as the cornerstone of a just society, advocating for the protection of fundamental rights and enabling political, economic, and social inclusion.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his government's firm resolve to democracy as a fundamental value of human society. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to constitutionalism, democracy, rule of law and human rights.

The prime minister emphasised that democracy was a fundamental value of human society. "Our government's commitment to constitutionalism, democracy, rule of law and human rights is firm and unwavering," he said.
