Pindi faces dengue onslaught as drive falters

Reports thirty-two new cases with three in critical condition

RAWALPINDI:

The anti-dengue campaign in Rawalpindi appears to be faltering as dengue mosquito attacks on citizens have intensified.

Over the past 24 hours, 32 new dengue cases have been confirmed, with three patients reported in critical condition.

Currently, 138 people are being treated for suspected and confirmed dengue fever in government hospitals, with 83 confirmed cases among them. The outbreak is particularly severe in the Pothohar Town area, where the total number of confirmed dengue cases has now reached 338 this season.

More than 11,000 dengue patients have sought medical care this season. In the last 20 hours, 17 new cases emerged from Pothohar Town, six from areas under the Municipal Corporation, two from Rawalpindi Cantonment, and four from Chaklala.

In addition to dengue, two Congo fever cases and 651 malaria cases have been reported this season, though no monkey pox cases have been recorded. Authorities have taken action by filing 2,678 FIRs against citizens and businesses after finding dengue larvae. A total of 751 buildings were sealed, and 2,142 challans were issued, leading to fines amounting to Rs12.97 million.

Currently, 34 dengue patients are receiving treatment at Benazir Bhutto General Hospital, 20 at Holy Family Hospital, and 14 at District Headquarters Hospital. Fauji Foundation Hospital is treating eight patients, while two are at PIMS, and five are in private hospitals. So far, 245 confirmed dengue patients have recovered and been discharged.
