City’s victory came on the same day that Liverpool’s perfect start to the season was shattered by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s stunning strike from outside the box handed Forest a 1-0 win, marking their first victory at Anfield since 1969.

Elsewhere, Manchester United bounced back from their defeat to Liverpool with a comfortable 3-0 win over Southampton.

Despite a strong start from the Saints, they failed to capitalise after Cameron Archer missed a penalty.

Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford gave United the lead before Jack Stephens’ red card for a challenge on Alejandro Garnacho sealed Southampton’s fate. Garnacho then added a third in stoppage time.

In an exciting contest at Villa Park, Aston Villa came from behind to beat Everton 3-2. Early goals from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave Everton the lead, but Ollie Watkins’ brace levelled the score before Jhon Duran’s spectacular strike sealed the comeback for Villa.

At Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace rescued a point in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Leicester City. Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for the Foxes, and Stephy Mavididi added a second just after the break.

Palace responded immediately, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring twice, including a last-minute penalty, to secure the draw.

Chelsea left it late to secure a 1-0 win against Bournemouth, with Jadon Sancho providing a through-ball for debutant Christopher Nkunku, who slotted home in the 86th minute.

In other results, West Ham salvaged a 1-1 draw against Fulham thanks to Danny Ings’ stoppage-time equaliser, while Ipswich held Brighton to a goalless draw, with goalkeeper Arijanet Muric making crucial saves to keep the score level.
