Fans hoping for a sequel to Richard Donner’s 1985 cult classic “The Goonies” were disappointed after recent reports about “The Goonies 2” were debunked by cast members. Rumors circulated that a sequel would be filmed next summer, with several original cast members returning. However, actors Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton quickly shut down the claims.
“There is no ‘Goonies 2’ script, there is no one ‘attached,’” Plimpton stated on Instagram. “Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real.” She also used the post to encourage people to “check your registration and vote.”
Feldman, who played Mouth in the original, echoed Plimpton’s comments, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that he had “no information” about any sequel in development.
2'SDAY, IS #GOONIES2 REAL?! EVERY1 IS ASKING...I CAN OFFICIALLY TELL U 100% NO! I HAV NO INFO THAT A SEQUEL IS IN THE WORX, BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS I HAV A SURPRISE EXCLUSIVE TEASER TRAILER 4 U, 2 MY FAV WORK WHICH IS FINALLY COMING 2 THEATERS VERY SOON.....#THEBIRTHDAY #COMINGSOON pic.twitter.com/qAeObrc4sz

Interest in a sequel has been ongoing for years, with one of the last serious discussions taking place in 2014 when Donner himself expressed enthusiasm for bringing the original cast back. Donner passed away in 2021 at the age of 91, and no sequel has moved forward since. Despite this, fan excitement remains high following the viral but inaccurate report.
