Three decades after Susan Smith drowned their two sons in a South Carolina lake, her ex-husband David Smith is determined to ensure she remains in prison. With Susan's parole hearing approaching in November, David has spoken out about the enduring pain of her horrific crime and his resolve to oppose her release.

In a recent interview with Court TV, David shared what he would say to Susan if given the chance: "You have no idea how much damage you have done to so many people... I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure you stay behind bars."

Susan Smith's case shocked the nation in 1994. She initially claimed a Black man had carjacked her and kidnapped her sons, but later confessed to driving her car into a lake with the boys strapped inside. The motive? Her new boyfriend didn't want children.

David, who has spoken in the past about the devastating impact of the murders, continues to grapple with the loss of his sons. "There's always this nagging and gnawing heartache," he said in a 2010 interview.

Susan Smith was convicted of two counts of murder and is serving a life sentence. Despite disciplinary issues in prison, including drug use and self-harm, she is eligible for parole on November 4th, 2024.

David's strong stance against Susan's release reflects the enduring pain and trauma inflicted by her crime. His words serve as a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences of child abuse and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
