Electric taxi project: Sindh senior minister meets automaker representatives

Sharjeel Memon meets GAC and Dewan Motors to discuss electric taxi options, assuring full govt cooperation.

The Sindh government is accelerating its efforts to launch an electric taxi project, with senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon meeting with representatives from Chinese automaker GAC and Dewan Motors to discuss the initiative.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, Dewan Yousuf Farooqui, and GAC representatives Zhu Song, Zhen Wen, Zafar Hassan, and others.

During the meeting, GAC's General Manager Zhu Song provided a detailed briefing on electric vehicles, with participants discussing various options to introduce electric taxis in Sindh.

Sharjeel Memon assured full government support for the project, highlighting the province’s commitment to providing necessary infrastructure, including charging stations and streamlined regulatory processes.

Memon emphasised the environmental and social benefits of the project, stating that electric taxis would not only offer safe and modern transportation but also help reduce carbon emissions, contributing to environmental protection.

He further mentioned that the initiative would generate new employment opportunities in the region.

The provincial minister also announced plans to launch a pink taxi service for women passengers, ensuring safe and reliable transport for female commuters.

The Sindh government aims to roll out the electric taxi service as soon as possible to provide citizens with cutting-edge, eco-friendly travel options.
